On May 30, 2022, as a result of shelling of the town of Svyatogorsk, the Holy Dormition Svyatogorsk Lavra was destroyed, two monks of this monastery and a nun were killed, three monks were injured. This was reported by the Information and Educational Department of the UOC.

“It is with deep sorrow that I inform you that on May 30, during the clashes, the 3rd and 4th monastic buildings of the Svyatogorsk Holy Dormition Lavra were damaged. During the shelling, the dean of the Lavra, Archimandrite Galaktion, the monk Aristokliy, and the nun Varvara were killed. Hieromonks Joasaph and Amphilochiy, as well as Hierodeacon Alipiy, were wounded. The number of dead and injured laymen is currently unknown,” said Metropolitan Hilarion of Donetsk and Mariupol, Hieroarchimandrite of the Holy Dormition Svyatogorsk Lavra.

Communication with Lavra has been absent for a long time.

Lord Hilarion asked for holy prayers for the repose of the dead and for the speedy recovery of the wounded.
