The leadership of the OCU rejoices that the UOC “agreed to dialogue”, but considers it an “integral part” of the ROC

Following the results of the Council of the UOC on May 27, the OCU “has no reason to assert” that the UOC has ceased to be an “integral part” of the ROC. At the same time, the OCU “expresses joy” about the fundamental agreement on the part of the UOC regarding the need for dialogue between the two Orthodox jurisdictions in Ukraine. This is stated in the statement of the synod of the OCU.

“The Synod of the OCU expresses joy in connection with the fundamental agreement on the part of the religious association of the UOC on the need for dialogue between the two Orthodox jurisdictions in Ukraine. For our part, we reaffirm that such a dialogue should begin without preconditions or ultimatums. We are waiting for specific proposals from the other side regarding the first steps in the dialogue and the appointment of persons responsible for conducting the dialogue.

We express our regret over the decision of the meeting on May 27 to approve all previous decisions by which, following the schismatic actions of the Moscow Patriarchate, the jurisdiction of the UOC (MPvU) severed communion with the Ecumenical Patriarchate, the Patriarchate of Alexandria, the Church of Cyprus and the Church of Greece. This, as well as the form of commemoration of the Primates according to the liturgy, which Metropolitan Onufry chose last Sunday, de facto confirmed the dependence on the decisions and position of the Moscow Patriarchate.

We are disappointed that the meeting on May 27 did not find sufficient appropriate words to condemn the Russian aggression against Ukraine and to support the struggle of the Ukrainian army and the whole people against the invaders, did not condemn the position of the Russian Patriarch Kirill, but only “expressed disagreement”, and did not express demands to him to change this position,” the statement said.
