In the media space after the Council on May 27, many accuse the hierarchy of the UOC of “allegedly committed a schism.” In his post, entitled “According to the results of the diocesan meeting,” Metropolitan Luka of Zaporozhye and Melitopol writes that this is not the case, and urges “not to label someone.” He writes about this in his Telegram channel.
“With all responsibility I want to say that all this is not so. When crucial issues are being resolved, one cannot instantly label someone or make them an enemy of the people.
Confirmation of these words is the same decision of the Synod of the Russian Orthodox Church. After all, everyone understands that the decision of any Council must go through a reception (acceptance-non-acceptance by the clergy and the people of God), after which it takes root in the life of the Church, or is rejected.
The Savior, in His High Priestly Prayer, expressed the will of God: “May they all be one, as You, Father, are in Me, and I in You, so they too may be one in Us, so that the world may believe that You sent Me” (Jn. 17:21). Therefore, I call on everyone to peace, to loyalty to our Mother Church, to Her canons, to our Primate, and to maintaining unity with God and in God with each other, through the prayers of the Mother of God and all the saints,” writes the hierarch.
