Speaker of the OCU “Archbishop” Yevstratiy Zorya wrote that the main goal of the meeting of the canonical Church in Ukraine on May 27, 2022 is “to come up with an excuse for not uniting with the OCU, what kind of construction should be proposed in order to keep Ukrainian Orthodoxy divided in the future.”
According to him, it is also symbolic that the meeting, which is convened in Kyiv by Metropolitan Onufry of Kyiv and All Ukraine, will take place on the 30th anniversary of the meeting in Kharkov.
“Usually the dates of the meeting were celebrated. They gathered in Kharkov and proclaimed the victory of catholicity over authoritarianism, of canonicity over schism. They confirmed the loyalty of unity with Moscow.
Moscow bombed Kharkov. The venue of the same meeting also got it. And keeps bombing. So gathering there is life-threatening. It is precisely because of Moscow… They are gathering in Kyiv, which was preserved by the same “Ukrainian nationalists” with whom the MPvU fought for 30 years. She retained the power, to which the MPvU constantly sends reproaches of “persecution” against itself … Not so many of the hierarchs who gathered there are still alive, but Metropolitan Onufry himself should remember those times well. Have you achieved what you were thinking?
Have the unity of the Church been preserved? No, they only deepened the division. Have you retained unity with Ecumenical Orthodoxy? Not! They themselves isolated themselves from the Ecumenical Patriarchate and a number of Local Churches. Saved “triune Russia”? No, she was finally killed in Bucha, bombed in Mariupol. The dead myth remains only to be buried.
However, apparently, the main question of the meeting will be the following: what other excuse can you come up with for not connecting with the OCU? What other structure can be proposed in order to keep Ukrainian Orthodoxy divided in the future?” writes the “archbishop”.
