Voting at the stadium: how the temple was “transferred” to the OCU in Khmelnitsky

On May 19, 2022, residents of the Leznevo microdistrict of the city of Khmelnitsky gathered at the stadium of the Sokolenok kindergarten, where they decided to transfer the Intercession Church to the OCU. According to podillyanews.com, the meeting was organized by the head of the Khmelnytsky District Council Alexander Chernievich and the deputy of the City Council Serhiy Manzyuk. At the same time, Manzyuk told the audience that since 2014, local residents have been asking him to transfer the Intercession Church to the Filaret Kyiv Patriarchate.

As Archpriest Mikhail Kozovoy, Dean of Khmelnitsky, told the UOJ, from among the residents who had never attended the church, the organizers elected the “parish council of the religious community” and voted for the transfer to the OCU. All those present at the stadium were registered by checking their passports (they counted 454 people), and each put his signature under the minutes of the meeting.

The real parishioners of the Church of the Intercession did not take part in these “elections” and called them a “shame”, and the accusations against the UOC were lies. After these words, the audience behaved aggressively, and the believers returned to the temple, where they prayed and sang an akathist to the Most Holy Theotokos, while the officials transferred the community to the OCU.

“The whole event was organized according to the same scheme as in the Ruzhichna microdistrict, and it was led by the same people,” Father Mikhail explained and added that there was a lawyer from the Khmelnytsky diocese at the meeting, who was not given the floor.

Earlier, residents of the Ruzhichna microdistrict in Khmelnitsky, under the leadership of the city authorities, “transferred” the community of the Assumption Church to the OCU. After that, the rector of the temple, Archpriest Volodymyr Zayats, filed a complaint with the police, where a criminal case had already been initiated into the seizure of property of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church.
