African hierarch accuses ROC priest of ‘well-coordinated invasion’

Bishop Neophyte of Nyeri did not allow the priest of the Russian Orthodox Church, Priest Georgy Maksimov, with his students, who came to the church at the invitation of the managing priest, to enter the church. In his commentary, he named Fr. George “an emissary of Moscow”, and told him about “the impossibility of serving in someone else’s canonical territory.”

“It is a spiritual insult and ignorance of the highest order on the part of the clergy of the Moscow Patriarchate to invade the altar of our diocese for worship, knowing full well that there is a canonical spiritual authority overseeing the temple in the region where this temple is founded. It is sad that I had to prevent him and his students from celebrating the liturgy today in Nyeri (our diocese) and asking them to leave in peace. It was an invasion that was well coordinated by the managing priest, whom I immediately removed from serving the parish,” wrote the hierarch of the Alexandrian Patriarchate.

Later, the clergy of the temple in Nairobi (Kenya) refused to serve with the hierarch of the Church of Alexandria, Metropolitan Macarius of Nairobi.

The hierarch of the Patriarchate of Alexandria, Bishop Neophyte of the Nyeri and Kenyan Mountains, also urged African priests not to move to the Patriarchal Exarchate of the Russian Orthodox Church in Africa.
