On February 6, 2022 in Nairobi (Kenya), in the church of St. Great Martyr Catherine, clerics of the Patriarchal Exarchate of Africa of the Russian Orthodox Church celebrated the Divine Liturgy. At the same time, the priests refused to serve with the local bishop of the Church of Alexandria who came to the temple. Metropolitan Leonid (Gorbachev), Patriarchal Exarch of the Russian Orthodox Church, reports this in Telegram:

The day before, the fathers agreed on a conciliar service. Upon learning of this, Metropolitan Makarios of Nairobi called the rector of the church and demanded that there be no Liturgy, to which he received an answer that he was treated with respect, but the decision to transfer to the Russian Orthodox Church was conscious and final. “Your decision (to join the ROC) will destroy your church!” (I quote the dialogue verbatim), – the words of the metropolitan sounded like thunder. The priest replied: “Lord, by your actions you destroyed it many years ago. There was no roof in the temple for several years, and you never called me. There were other problems, but you were silent. What caused your today’s call!?” But this is not the final. In the morning, His Eminence arrived at the temple before anyone else with a support group and announced that he would now serve the Liturgy here as well. Fathers, all as one, refused.

The Metropolitan had to leave.

Now I have to ask. Then, in November 2019, when the Patriarch of Alexandria Theodore recognized the “ocu”, Metropolitan Makarios was standing next to, what did he feel? Did not his heart tremble from lawlessness and injustice? And how cheerfully, at the last Synod, he reported to the Patriarch that “all discords occur in the west of Kenya, everything is fine in my capital!” He who sows the wind will reap the whirlwind. Lord Makarios is one of the oldest hierarchs of the Alexandrian Church, which means that experience and intuition should prompt him to make the right decision. However, like everyone else, “who was pressured by the authorities, diplomats, etc.”
