“They want to come to everything ready,” how the raiders waited until the UOC restores the temple in Khotyn

As the work of believers, from 1990 to the present day, the temple was restored, which the believers of the UOC in Khotyn received from the state, and what the temple looks like now is remembered in the Chernivtsi-Bukovina diocese of the UOC.

“Now in 2022, a group of nationalists from Chernivtsi, under the leadership of the schismatic Metropolitan Daniel, is trying to wrest the church from the believers. Come as they like, at all ready. Because, unfortunately, they don’t know how to build and restore churches, they only know how to rob … ”, the diocese states.

In the period from 1944 to 1990, the temple was closed and partially destroyed during the Second World War. And only in 1990 it was returned to the Orthodox community.

The premises of the temple needed immediate repair, it was in a terrible state: the temple was without a roof, windows, doors and floors.

The parishioners, led by the first rector of the church, Archpriest Vasily Savchuk, carried out restoration work at their own expense: they installed a roof and a new floor, made a new iconostasis, completed a new painting of the church, acquired a new throne, a new bell, restored icons, cleaned and equipped the territory.

“And all this was done on a spiritual upsurge back in those days when the fortress was not a State Reserve, but was on the balance sheet of the city,” the report says.

The consecration of the temple and the first liturgy on December 4, 1994 were performed by the then Archimandrite Meletiy (Egorenko), now Metropolitan of Chernivtsi and Bukovina.

“We bought bells, we bought icons… instead of a temple, there was lime and stone,” says Lidia Mikhailovna, who has been a parishioner of St. Alexander Nevsky in Khotyn.

Lydia Mikhailovna’s heart hurts for her native temple, which OCU activists are trying to take away.

“Lydia Mikhailovna said that it was not a secret for her and for the residents of Khotin that the OCU activist from the Right Sector, Alexander Parashchuk, who wants to seize the Orthodox church, sells vodka to visitors at the entrance to the Khotyn fortress … Here is one of the so-called “patriots” “business… That’s how they expand it…” summed up in the diocese of the UOC.
