The Catholic website The Pillar reported that during the trial of corruption of high-ranking officials of the Vatican, the person involved in the case testified about the involvement of the Vatican in espionage and cooperation with the special services of different countries, blogger Alexander Voznesensky writes.
The confession to espionage appeared in recently released interrogations by Vatican prosecutors during a financial crimes trial in which 10 figures linked to a real estate deal were charged.
The notes also point to other intelligence-gathering efforts by figures involved in the deal, and highlight Cardinal Angelo Becciu’s alleged attempts to hide Vatican payments to Cecilia Maronier, a woman whom the cardinal described as a “personal spy,” according to The Pillar.
