Patriarch Theophilus of Jerusalem met with the Russian Ambassador to Israel

On January 31, 2022, Anatoly Viktorov, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Russian Federation to the State of Israel, was received by His Beatitude Patriarch Theophilos III of Jerusalem, mospat reports.

At the meeting, they noted the need to continue to maintain a Christian presence in the Holy Land, to ensure the inviolability of Orthodox religious sites and the safety of Christian believers. The counterproductiveness of any attempts to change the historically established interfaith status quo in Israel, including in the Old City of Jerusalem, was also emphasized.

Special attention was paid to topical issues on the international agenda.

The meeting was attended by the secretary of the Russian Ecclesiastical Mission (REM) in Jerusalem, hegumen Nikon (Golovko) and the treasurer of the REM, Hieromonk Athanasius (Bukin).
