The issue of the calendar still divides believers in Ukraine, but the calendar church reform should be carried out jointly with the Orthodox. This was stated by the head of the UGCC Svyatoslav Shevchuk, the Department of Information of the UGCC reports.
“I think that the issue of the calendar is still dividing believers in Ukraine. Because it is not a question of giving Christmas or other holidays, there is a problem here with people’s attitude to this problem. We have very, I would say, such hardened conservatives who consider the calendar a part of identity of their denomination. And when someone decides to reform the calendar, then they start to suspect that this is the real Church,” Shevchuk believes.
However, the Head of the UGCC noted that “we still do not have a critical number that would allow us to take certain formal steps, but it is gradually growing. Do you know why? Because we are a global church.”
