The Greeks are the problem of Orthodoxy in Africa, – the Tanzanian priest who transferred to the Russian Orthodox Church

The Tanzanian priest Laurent Sakwa, who left to the Russian Orthodox Church, spoke about the main problems of Orthodoxy in Africa, The Orthodox Research Center “Chrisma” reports. According to him, their reason is the way the Greeks understand the missionary work.

“The Greeks are not in Africa for the spiritual life. They are here for their own profit through the umbrella of Church. They take photos from poor people and find money through these African. Greeks don’t teach people but give sweets. This way doesn’t help the Orthodoxy to grow in spiritual life.

Second problem is the discrimination in the Church, and weak leadership. The Greeks of the Patriarchate of Alexandria don’t teach people in Africa, looking them as a third people,” Fr. Laurent says.

According to him, many priests from all dioceses have decided to transfer to the Russian Orthodox Church for the sake of protecting the canonical Orthodox Church and for the sake of their spiritual life.

“Now there is a confrontation between us and those priests who remained with the Greeks, but there are only two or three of them. Most of the priests support us, wanting to join the ROC. They do not want to be with the schismatics from the Patriarchate of Alexandria… the priests who have decided to stay in the Patriarchate of Alexandria are afraid that the Greeks will deprive them of their salaries. And the Greeks use them to threaten the Africans,” testifies the Tanzanian cleric.

As previously reported, Patriarch Theodore was convicted of ignorance of church history.
