Pope may come to Ukraine unexpectedly, – hierarch of the UGCC

In an interview on the NTA TV channel, the hierarch of the UGCC Stepan Sus said that making unexpected decisions is a hallmark of Pope Francis. He can announce the visit shortly before the start, reports Religious Truth.

“Pope Francis has a very different method of his pastoral visits than Pope John Paul II or Pope Benedict. He’s so unexpected. Once upon a time it took a year and longer to prepare for such visits. Pope Francis approaches this easier. He can say in two months that he plans to visit the country that invited him, ”explained Stepan Sus.

According to him, every year the Pope receives invitations from many countries of the world. But it is known for sure that the pontiff personally expressed the desire to visit Ukraine, the head of the UGCC Svyatoslav Shevchuk, and this question is one of the first for him.

“Probably, the protocol service is looking for a convenient time for the visit and circumstances. Pope Francis is always interested in the circumstances of people’s lives, where people are not easy, people endure. Perhaps he will want to visit Donbass, a place where the war is going on, and for such a visit there will be a possible option for it to be safe and with great benefit for all of us, “commented Stepan Sus.

As previously reported, Pope Francis was invited to Ukraine by President Volodymyr Zelenskyy back in February 2020. So far, the only visit of the head of the Catholic Church to Ukraine was the arrival of John Paul II in the summer of 2001.
