Behind the split among millions of Ukrainian Orthodox Christians, a new split is being created on the African continent, – the head of the Albanian Church

The split in connection with the tomos of the OCU was followed by a split in the difficult African continent. Time does not automatically correct church schisms and does not heal them; on the contrary, it strengthens and deepens them. Archbishop Anastassy of Tirana wrote about this, commenting on the decision of the Russian Orthodox Church to establish an African Exarchate, writes Orthodox times.

“From the very beginning of the church crisis in Ukraine, we have orally and in writing pointed out that time does not heal church schism and schisms. On the contrary, it deepens and strengthens them.

The recent decision of the Moscow Patriarchate to establish an exarchate on the African continent confirms initial fears. Along with a split among millions of Ukrainian Orthodox Christians, a new split is being created on the difficult African continent, where the Orthodox mission abroad has been developing in recent decades,” he wrote,
and added: “The emerging political pressure from both sides damages the spiritual prestige of the Orthodox Church. The mobilization of irresponsible persons who offend those who express a different opinion, and at the same time flatter those who support them, levels the Orthodox dialogue at a critical time for Orthodoxy.

Some church circles express the hope that all Orthodox Churches will gradually recognize the Tomos of autocephaly. However, even if some Autocephalous Churches recognize this, others, as they have publicly stated so far, will remain in denial. This will lead to ethno-racial division (into Greeks, Slavs and those who want harmonious relations with everyone), which negates the multinational and multicultural nature of Orthodoxy and its ecumenical nature. Time does not automatically correct church schisms and does not heal them; on the contrary, it strengthens and deepens them.”
