Why were Roman Catholics in Ukraine allowed not to fast on Friday January 7th?

The reasons that prompted the Roman Catholics of Ukraine to allow not fasting on Friday, January 7, were not reported, but, most likely, this is due to the fact that most Christians in Ukraine celebrate the Nativity of Christ on January 7, writes “From the bell chamber.”

“The abolition of fasting on this day will allow Ukrainian Catholics to share the“ ecumenical feast ”with both Orthodox and Greek Catholics without remorse.
A similar idea was previously expressed by the leadership of the OCU. There, however, they proposed to weaken or even cancel the fast on December 31 and January 1.

The motivation for this initiative was not religious, but quite earthly. The Church of Epiphany Dumenko, as a “loving mother”, wants to allow those believers who do not fast these days to break the fast. Now they will be able to do it calmly and “with the blessing,” writes the Telegram channel.
