The Alexandrian Patriarchate has published an official statement in connection with the establishment of the ROC of the Patriarchal Exarchate of Africa. The position of the Alexandrian Patriarchate will be announced after the meeting of the Synod, the Orthodoxia news agency reports.

“The ancient Alexandrian Patriarchate expresses its deepest sorrow over the synodal decisions of the Russian Patriarchate on the establishment of the Exarchate and the limitation of the primordial jurisdiction of the Church of Alexandria. The decisions were made during the period of the holidays of the Nativity of Christ and the Epiphany, when the King of the world, Christ, appears.

The Alexandrian Patriarchate will continue to fulfill its pastoral duties towards the faithful of God’s flock, remaining in a spiritual debt to the great Greek Fathers of the Church, who, according to the modern Russian theologian, the late Father George Florovsky, have left an indelible stamp on Orthodox theology.

The decision of the Russian Patriarchate will be discussed at the upcoming meeting of the Synod of the Patriarchate of Alexandria and then appropriate decisions will be made, ”the statement says.
