Priest who criticized the Patriarchate of Georgia will be removed from service

Archpriest Ilia Chigladze, known for his critical statements against the Patriarchate of Georgia, will be removed from service. As stated in the Public Relations Service of the GOC, the Synodal Commission made the corresponding decision in connection with his insults to the representatives of the clergy, writes Echo Kavkaza.

“As you know, at the meeting of the Holy Synod of the Georgian Orthodox Church on February 11, 2021, among other things, there was talk about the permanently disseminated through the media the insulting statements of Archpriest of the Diocese of Great Britain and Northern Ireland Ilia (Irakli) Chigladze against members of the Holy Synod and individual clergy. The study of this issue was entrusted to the synodal commission. ”

Later, as stated in the patriarchate, Father Elijah was supposed to appear before her “within a reasonable time” – no later than three months after the commission had issued an opinion. However, the archpriest did not appear and did not give any explanation on this matter.

At the same time, the Public Relations Service adds that after the February meeting of the Synod, Ilia Chigladze continued the aforementioned actions. Therefore, it was proposed that he be banned from the priesthood. “This issue will be referred to the Holy Synod for a final decision,” the text says.
