On December 6, 2021, the hierarch of the Bulgarian Orthodox Church, Metropolitan Gabriel of Lovchansk, during a sermon during the Divine Liturgy in the church in honor of St. Nicholas the Wonderworker in Sofia (Bulgaria), named the Primate of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church, His Beatitude Onuphry, Metropolitan of Kyiv, the great shepherd sent to the Ukrainians by God. This was reported by the Information and Education Department of the UOC.
The Bulgarian hierarch spoke about his years spent at the Trinity Lavra of St. Sergius and the Moscow Theological Academy, where he had the opportunity to communicate with the Dean of the Monastery of St. Sergius, then Father Onuphry, and now the Primate of the UOC, His Beatitude Metropolitan Onuphry.
“Lord Gabriel named Metropolitan Onuphry the head of the canonical Ukrainian Church, in contrast to the recently created schismatic structure. He also stressed that “in difficult moments of trial, the Lord sends great pastors to the Orthodox people,” the message says.
As previously reported, on December 9, the Primate of the UOC celebrates the anniversary of the episcopal consecration.
