IAO Secretary General praised Patriarch Bartholomew for strengthening the unity of Orthodoxy

General Secretary of the Interparliamentary Assembly of Orthodoxy Maxim Harakopulos praised Patriarch Bartholomew for strengthening the unity of Orthodoxy. But for the representatives of the Local Orthodox Churches, the words of the IAO General Secretary will become “a subject for ironic skepticism,” writes Pravblog.

In his address to Patriarch Bartholomew of Constantinople, on the occasion of his 30-year tenure on the patriarchal throne, Harakopoulos noted the efforts that the head of the Phanar is making “so that Orthodoxy overcome all the problems that undermined it.” He called the Cretan Cathedral, which took place in 2016, as the main church event in this direction.

“Of course, it was not worth expecting from a representative of the Greek authorities nothing but praises to Patriarch Bartholomew. After all, for them, the advancement of the Phanar is, first of all, the advancement of “Hellenism” and the interests of the Greek nation.

But for other representatives of the Local Orthodox Churches (who, by the way, for the most part ignored the celebrations in honor of Bartholomew), Harakopulos’s words will certainly become a subject for ironic skepticism.

To declare the strengthening of the unity of Orthodoxy at a time when it is in a deep crisis, caused precisely by the actions of Patriarch Bartholomew, means deliberately distorting reality and engaging in outright propaganda,” writes the Telegram channel.
