On November 30, the Verkhovna Rada adopted in the second reading the bill No. 4626 “On the service of the military chaplaincy.” The meeting was broadcast on the Rada TV channel.
The bill is dedicated to the creation of the Military Chaplaincy Service. The deputies did not support the discriminatory norms directed against the clergy of the UOC, on the adoption of which a number of people’s deputies, including ex-director of the Institute of National Remembrance Vladimir Vyatrovich, insisted.
The provisions concerning the “church of the aggressor country” and the “Moscow agents” were rejected as violating the Constitution.
Earlier, the religious expert noted that the draft Law “On Military Chaplaincy” contained paradoxical provisions allowing the faithful of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church to serve in any position in the Armed Forces of Ukraine, but depriving them of the right to receive pastoral care by priests of the UOC.
