Russian priest awarded a prize in Belgium for the construction of a church on the site of a concentration camp

Archpriest Pavel Nedosekin, Secretary of the Brussels-Belgian Diocese of the Moscow Patriarchate, was awarded the Unity Prize for the construction of a church in honor of the Life-Giving Spring icon of the Mother of God in Liege on the site of a former Nazi concentration camp, the website of the Brussels-Belgian Diocese reports.

The awards ceremony, timed to coincide with the National Unity Day, took place on November 25, 2021 at the Russian House in Brussels.

Among other guests, the ceremony was attended by the Archbishop of Brussels and Belgium Simon.

The Memorial Church of the Russian Orthodox Church in honor of the Icon of the Mother of God “Life-Giving Spring” was built in Belgian Liege on the site of a Nazi concentration camp, in which Soviet prisoners of war were kept during World War II. To this end, the Russian-speaking diaspora of Liege, led by a group of believers from the Orthodox community of the Moscow Patriarchate, bought a plot of land for construction at their own expense.
