On November 25, 2021, on the day of commemoration of St. John the Merciful, the vicar of the Volyn diocese, Bishop Kamin-Kashirsky Afanasiy (German) performed the rite of laying the foundation for a new church in honor of the Martyr Longinus the Centurion in the village Borovychi. This was reported by the press service of the Volyn diocese of the UOC.

The bishops were co-served by the parish rector, Archpriest Petro Yanochko, and the clergy of the diocese.

The hierarch consecrated the cross, the cornerstone, the foundation of the future building and laid a commemorative capsule and wished the abbot of the community and parishioners help in further work.

The UOC community in the village of Borovychi became one of the victims of the OCU raider attack in Volyn in March 2019.
