His Beatitude Metropolitan Onufry of Kiev and All Ukraine said that in modern realities the conciliar structure of the Orthodox Church was under threat as a result of the statements of the Patriarchate of Constantinople about “special rights.” The representative of the UOC announced this during the International Conference at the KDAiS on the topic “The Catholic Church: Theological, Canonical and Historical Dimensions”, reports “Pravblog”.
“The Patriarchate of Constantinople is trying to solve the most important issues of church life on its own. It is precisely the idea of the Church of Constantinople about its “special status” that is the root cause of the grave crisis in which the entire world Orthodoxy finds itself today, “said His Beatitude Metropolitan Onuphry.
According to the Primate of the UOC, the refusal of the Patriarchate of Constantinople to submit painful issues of church life for conciliar consideration is of particular concern.
“Since it is obvious that only by convening councils of the Primates of the Orthodox Churches, and possibly the Pan-Orthodox Council, can we find a way out of the grave crisis that has brought world Orthodoxy to the brink of schism,” said His Beatitude Metropolitan Onufry.
