Polish Church reaffirmed its position on the Ukrainian issue

The Council of Bishops of the Polish Orthodox Church confirmed its previous decision on the church situation in Ukraine. The autumn session of the Council, which was held on October 26, 2021 under the chairmanship of His Beatitude Metropolitan Savva of Warsaw and All Poland, began with the consideration of this issue, Pravlife reports.

In the widespread announcement of the Office of the Metropolitanate of Warsaw, it is said that the Council of Bishops “got acquainted with the current ecclesiastical situation in Ukraine; confirmed the previous decisions of the Holy Council on the question raised. ” Details were not disclosed.

During the autumn session, the hierarchs made decisions on various issues in the life of the Polish Orthodox Church. In particular, the Council established a new church-wide order, decided to strengthen catechesis among young people, got acquainted with the results of the work of the commission for the translation of the New Testament into Polish, instructed the Eleos charitable organization to organize comprehensive assistance to immigrants, decided to deliver the Holy Fire to Poland on Holy Saturday 2022 from Jerusalem.

As previously reported, in 2019, the Polish Orthodox Church confirmed the invariability of its position regarding the non-recognition of the schismatic “Orthodox Church of Ukraine”. The Bishops’ Council made a decision “to leave its position on the autocephaly of the Ukrainian Church as it was, expressed in Council Decrees No. 340 of May 9, 2018, No. 341 of June 25, 2018 and No. 342 of April 2, 2019”.
