48 US Senators expressed their full support for the visit of Patriarch Bartholomew of Constantinople to the United States. In their letter to President Joe Biden, they recalled their planned trip, orthodoxtimes reported.
“American senators drew the president’s attention that they are looking forward to meeting with Patriarch Bartholomew and expressed a desire to see the spiritual leader of the second largest Christian church in the world,” the newspaper writes.
Senators note the great role of the head of the Phanar in promoting peace through interfaith dialogue: “This visit is an excellent opportunity for our Congress and our government to follow in the footsteps of the Ecumenical Patriarch and demonstrate our common desire for a spirit of peace and cooperation.”
