The Synod of Bishops approved the updated Concept of the ecumenical position of the UGCC. The main changes to the document were outlined by Churcher.

The UGCC welcomes the unification of the divided Orthodox Churches of Ukraine into a single OCU, shows its readiness to conduct an ecumenical dialogue with it and actively cooperate in the public life of Ukraine.

He wishes to cooperate with the UOC-MP on the basis of mutual respect for the historical and ecclesial nature of each other.

It is noted that inclusive forms of cooperation between the Churches of Ukraine could become a chance for the Roman and Tsargorod Sister Churches to meet on their territory in order to find new ecumenical models of understanding.

It was added that the UGCC will enrich its church thinking through dialogue and communication not only with the RCC, but also with local churches and communities, together with the UGCC, parts of the Universal Church in unity with the Bishop of Rome.

The clause on the commitment of the UGCC to heal the wounds of the past and achieve historical reconciliation with the ROC remained unchanged, but it was raised higher in the text, placing before the clause about grief over the loss of communication with Constantinople (earlier it was first about “Old” Rome, then about the ROC, and after that – about relations with Ukrainian Orthodoxy).

“Relations with Ukrainian Orthodoxy” are now discussed earlier than relations with Orthodox Churches – in the section “Searching for the Unity of the Churches of Vladimir’s Baptism.” This paragraph has been almost completely rewritten, from the preliminary version only the statement about the position of non-interference in intra-Orthodox misunderstandings and openness to dialogue with all Orthodox churches in Ukraine, regardless of their jurisdiction.
