Broken locks and damaged doors: the OCU tried to seize the property of the UOC-KP community

On September 23, 2021, the OCU raiders tried to seize the church of the “Kyiv Patriarchate” community in Klavdieve-Tarasove of the Kyiv region, which declared its desire to stay with “patriarch” Filaret and has been defending its property from the encroachments of the OCU for two years. This was reported by the press service of the UOC-KP.

“A group of people led by the local dean of the OCU, Ivan Dziuba, arrived at the temple at about 11:00 and tried to get into it. The raiders tore down the metal bars in front of the central doors, broke the locks and handles on all the doors of the church and the parish house, and destroyed the bulletin board in the churchyard. The police, who arrived at the place of lawlessness, prevented the raiders from further illegal actions of desecrating the temple. It was the police officers who prevented the violators of the law from breaking into the temple and stopped the desecration of the shrine,” the message says.

Since 2019, when the parish of the martyrs Faith, Hope, Charity and their mother Sophia in Klavdieve-Tarasove remained a part of the Kyiv Patriarchate, the community suffers from illegal actions of representatives of the OCU, who are trying to seize the parish and take possession of its property. The parish has been trying for about two years in various courts to protect its church and ensure its constitutional right to freedom of religion in order to continue to be in the UOC-KP. Lawsuits are currently underway in the Court of Cassation.

As noted, the community, headed by rector Sergiy Struk, has already addressed personally to the “Metropolitan” Epiphany Dumenko with a request “to stop and not bless the illegal and violent actions that the clergy and believers of the OCU are taking, but in response from the head of this Church they received only silence and no reaction”.
