The hierarch of the UOC Metropolitan Bartholomew died

On September 15, 2021, at about midnight, the Facebook page of the Union of Orthodox Journalists informed  the death of the hierarch of the UOC, Metropolitan Bartholomew (Vashchuk) of Rivne and Ostroh.

The hierarch passed to the Lord at the age of 68.

Metropolitan Bartholomew ruled the Rivne and Ostroh diocese from July 27, 1995.

According to the decision of the Holy Synod of the Russian Orthodox Church on February 19, 1990, he was elected bishop of Volyn and Rivne.

On February 24, 1990, his episcopal consecration took place at the Vladimir Cathedral in Kyiv.

On October 16, 1990, he became the rector of the Volyn Theological Seminary.

In August 1992, supporters of the UOC-KP, with the tacit support of local authorities, seized the Lutsk Cathedral, the diocesan administration and the building of the theological seminary. After that, on August 25 of the same year, at his request, Bishop Bartholomew was transferred to the Nikolaev and Vosnesensk diocese.

Since June 23, 1993 – Bishop of Sumy and Akhtyrka.

Since July 27, 1995, the hierarch headed the Rivne cathedra, which was previously part of the Volyn Diocese headed by him.

On November 23, 1996 he has got the rank of archbishop.

On August 28, 2014 he has got the rank of Metropolitan.
