How the head of the OCU “consecrated” the temple on the territory of the UOC community

On September 12, 2021, the head of the OCU Epiphany Dumenko performed the “rite of consecration” of the cross and the construction site of the new cathedral of the Lviv and Sokal diocese of the OCU.

Believers sent photos from the scene, the UOJ reports. They show that for the event with the participation of Epiphany, a large number of law enforcement officers were involved, cordoning off the area around the perimeter.

The ceremony was held at a site belonging to the UOC by law, and the parishioners of the small wooden church of the UOC, who came to the evening service, could watch it from the side – through the police cordon.

It was also previously reported that the OCU does not have the right to carry out construction work on this land: the city allocated it to the Orthodox community in 1991, and in 1993, the already almost completed stone church in honor of St. Prince Vladimir was seized by the Filaret`s schismatics. Now two churches (which are used by the UOC and the OCU) bear the same name and are located at the same address – Chervona Kalina Avenue, 89. The rector, Fr. Vladimir, says that, according to the law, the entire territory and both churches, near which the OCU held its events, belong to the UOC community.
