The new head of the Foreign Intelligence Service, Alexander Litvinenko, known for his “pro-English background” position, who has replaced the “pro-American” Valery Kondratyuk, will promote the same position as his predecessor in Church affairs, writes Pravblog.
“What will be the position of the new chief of the aforementioned special service on the church issue? In our opinion, the corresponding answer must be sought in the work biography of the head of the FIS.
In 2012, Litvinenko wrote the work “Russian Soft Power in Ukraine” for the British organization Chatham House. Among the factors of such strength, the author considered the Orthodox Church, the Russian language and the common past, “which Moscow is trying to transform into a common future.” In light of the above, we can assume the following – with the new head of the SVR, the view of this structure on religious topics will not change. All the same, positions will be promoted about the threat of “the use of the religious factor by external forces”, as well as the Orthodox Church as “an instrument of soft power” of the Russian Federation,” writes the Telegram channel.
