After the publication of a video of the joint divine service of Georgian and Ukrainian priests from the Svetitskhoveli Church of the GOC in Church Slavonic, representatives of the radical liberal opposition of Georgia and the media controlled by them demanded to punish the Patriarchate of Georgia for prayers “in Russian”, writes UOJ with reference to rustavi2.ge.

Tamara Chergoleishvili, editor of the Georgian magazine Tabula, said that on this fact, the law enforcement agencies are obliged to arrest and interrogate the Patriarch of Georgia Iliy II.

The Georgian Orthodox Church explained the reasons for chanting in Church Slavonic in the Mtskheta Cathedral of Svetitskhoveli: “Today, together with the Georgian clergy, a joint service was held in Georgian and Church Slavonic. As you know, services in Ukraine are conducted in the Church Slavonic language. In general, it is a common practice in the Church to allow guests to perform part of the service in their native language, ”the Georgian Patriarchate said in a statement.

Earlier, the “opposition” in Georgia erupted in “revelations” about the GOC because of its support for traditional values.
