The AUCCRO explained to the G7 diplomats why they oppose the Istanbul Convention

According to the website of the All-Ukrainian Council of Churches and Religious Organizations, a group of religious leaders at a meeting with ambassadors and diplomats of the G7 countries and other countries also presented the position of the AUCCRO on a number of socially important issues.

The meeting took place on July 9 in Kyiv at the invitation of the British Ambassador Melinda Simmons. Ambassadors and representatives of the embassies of Italy, Norway, USA, Japan, Canada and other countries, also attended the meeting.

The meeting was attended by the chairman of the AUCCRO, the head of the UGCC Svyatoslav Shevchuk, the head of the OCU Epiphany Dumenko, Bishop of the RCC in Ukraine Vitaliy Krivitsky, senior bishop of the Ukrainian Church of Christians of Evangelical Faith Mykhailo Panochko, President of the Association of Jewish Religious Organizations, Rabbi Yakov Dov Bleikh, Chairman of the Spiritual Administration of Muslims of Ukraine Akhmed Tamim, Deputy Chairman of the Department for External Church Relations of the UOC, Archpriest Mykolay Danylevych.

Religious figures shared with foreign diplomats the experience of the participation of representatives of Churches in the Trilateral Contact Group for a Peaceful Settlement of the Situation in Eastern Ukraine. The meeting participants also exchanged views on combating domestic violence, despite different approaches to solving this problem.

Representatives of the diplomatic corps spoke about the importance of ratifying the Istanbul Convention. Nevertheless, religious leaders noted the need for practical measures to counter domestic violence, developing national legislation for this, which is possible without the ratification of this framework international document, which has a certain ideological connotation.

Representatives of confessions expressed critical well-reasoned comments on the Istanbul Convention, based on which the All-Ukrainian Council of Churches and Religious Organizations opposes its ratification by the Ukrainian parliament.
