The Lugansk eparchy of the UOC has published an official commentary on the cause of death of Metropolitan Mitrofan of Lugansk and Alchevsk.

“In connection with the fact that information appeared in the media hinting about the alleged violent death of Metropolitan of Lugansk and Alchevsk Mitrofan, we report the following.

According to the preliminary conclusions of the doctors of the ambulance that went to the call on the night of June 18, 2021, the cause of Vladyka’s death was established – a heart attack. Based on these preliminary conclusions, two hours later, information about the death of Vladyka Mitrofan was published on the website of the Lugansk diocese, indicating the cause of death – a heart attack. However, an autopsy revealed the true cause of death – a stroke, against the background of chronic heart disease. A few days before his death, Metropolitan Mitrofan complained of poor health and sudden changes in pressure, which probably led to a stroke and a fall, as a result of which he hit his head on the concrete steps of the house. When the forensic team arrived at the scene, no traces or signs of violent death were found.
