Dissatisfied with the decision of the court, which stopped the case on the eviction of the priest from the house in the village Sadov, OCU supporters attacked a lawyer

On June 4, 2021, a regular court hearing was held in the case of the eviction of the family of Archpriest Vladimir Meles with young children from a house in the village of Sadov, Lutsk district of Volyn region. Despite the pressure of the young people who came to the meeting with the “OCU cleric”, the Lutsk City District Court satisfied the claim of the UOC priest and stopped the case on the eviction of his family. This decision did not like the supporters of the “OCU” and they began to threaten the lawyer. This was reported by the Information and Education Department of the UOC.

The case was postponed until the Lutsk City Court decides another case on the claim, in which Father Volodymyr asks to cancel the decision of the state registrar to re-register the ownership of his apartment building to the OCU community.

According to the lawyer of the priest of the UOC, Matsey A.M., this is the first case of this kind in Ukraine.

“It’s not enough for us to win the eviction case. We are now going the other way, we have started a number of cases on the cancellation of state registration, registration of residential buildings,” he explained in his commentary for the media.

The diocesan press service notes that the OCU fans did not like this decision, who arrived at the court session from the village of Sadov together with their “priest” Nazar Partika and a group of young people in shorts and balaclavas in their hands. The diocese believes that these young people should have ensured the forced eviction of the priest’s family in the event of a positive court decision for the OCU.

“At the hearing, together with the plaintiff’s lawyer Y. Spirina, a group of support for the OCU supporters arrived, residents of the village. Orchards, which were “watered with mud” in front of each other by Fr. Vladimir, trying to create a negative image about him, both in front of the judge and in front of journalists covering this case in the media,” the statement says.

And after the end of the meeting, the car of the lawyer of the priest of the UOC was followed. While driving, the defender’s car was cut off by another car with foreign registration numbers, and the young people in it provoked the lawyer into a conflict and threatened.

The lawyer states: “The methods of the OCU community have remained as they were: this is intimidation, this is an attempt at mental pressure. <…> I am very pleased that there was a provocation against me as a lawyer, there was intimidation of me as a lawyer. This suggests that there is a positive result. If there is a positive result, then it is necessary to go further and protect our UOC”.

Also Matseya A.M. said that pressure had been exerted on him earlier in connection with other cases that are being actively pursued in relation to the situation around the priest’s family in the village of Sadov.

“Crazy pressure is being made in the legal field in order to simply hack these cases in the bud, pressure is exerted on me personally as a lawyer, there were” passengers “who followed me, there were attempts to hit me on the head, and so on,” he said.

As a result of the last incident, criminal proceedings were opened on the grounds of crimes under Art. 397 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (interference in the activities of a defender or representative of a person) and Art. 398 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (Threat or violence against a defender or representative of a person).
