Former Georgian President Mikheil Saakashvili has said the Kremlin is using Orthodoxy as a tool to advance its political agenda. He stated this in an interview with Ta Nea newspaper, Orthodoxtimes.com reports.
“The Kremlin sees Greece as a weak point in Europe where it can move comfortably, given the historical sentiment and traditional corruption of some officials,” Saakashvili said.
“Orthodoxy is used for this purpose because Moscow has always considered Orthodoxy as a tool that it could use not only in Greece, but in all Orthodox countries. The issue of Orthodoxy can be considered in different ways, but Russia views it as something (tool, – ed.) With which it can act,” – said the former president of Georgia.
