On May 26, 2021, an online video conference of the European Deanery of the UOC-KP with the head of the “Kyiv Patriarchate” Filaret took place. This was reported on the Facebook page of the Deanery.
The problem of the lack of clergy to take care of the large Ukrainian diaspora in Europe, in comparison with other religious organizations, was voiced, which was urgent for the Filaret structure.
“At the final discussion after the video meeting, having analyzed the conference itself and the development of the UOC-KP two years after the provision of the tomos, we came to the conclusion that the current Kyiv Patriarchate, on the basis of the church-political situation, is deprived of prospects for development in Ukraine. They took into account the lack of the possibility of spiritual support for the diaspora on the part of the patriarchate, with the exception of the possibility of jurisdictional affiliation, and with this the lack of opportunities to create appropriate conditions for the development and provision of the liturgical life of Orthodox Ukrainians in Europe.
We discussed possible steps in the direction of development and made a decision: To remain with the Kyiv Patriarchate at least because of its very idea and as far as possible and necessary, in order to provide additional spiritual support for all believers, while maintaining the autonomy of parishes inherent in Europe,” the Deanery informs.
