Moscow is trying to use the authority of the Jerusalem Patriarch Theophilos III to split Orthodoxy into two parts and is putting pressure on the Patriarch to “prevent the recognition of Ukrainian autocephaly.” This was stated by the head of the OCU Epiphany Dumenko on the air of “Pryamyi“.
“The Jerusalem Patriarch is in a very difficult situation. Moscow is trying to a certain extent to use the authority of the Jerusalem Patriarch to divide Orthodoxy into two parts. This is a meeting in Amman, it is also a desire to bring the Patriarch of Jerusalem to the 30th anniversary of Ukraine’s independence as a counterbalance to the visit of the Ecumenical Patriarch. But this will not happen,” the “metropolitan” predicts.
“We are also negotiating. The process is complicated. We know that Moscow is making a lot of efforts not only at the church, but also at the state level to prevent this from happening. But the process is irreversible. It’s only a matter of time before recognition occurs. And it will surely happen,” says Dumenko.
