On May 3, 2021, the head of the UOC-KP Filaret Denisenko took part in a live broadcast of the socio-political project “Golovanov’s Time” on the Ukraine 24 TV channel. Answering the question about what his relations with Patriarch Kirill are like now, Filaret noted that the conflict as such has already subsided.
“There is no conflict as such now, but there was a conflict, I spoke for the independence of the Ukrainian church, because Ukraine became an independent state,” Filaret said.
According to his interpretation, “this is required by the apostolic canons, in particular, the 34th apostolic canon, which says that every nation should have its first bishop.”
“Patriarch Kirill was not a patriarch at that time, but he was close to the patriarch and had a different position. Therefore, there was a confrontation. It continues to this day, but there is no longer such a sharpness,” says the head of the UOC-KP.
