On the 35th anniversary of the Chernobyl disaster, the UOC held a night funeral service at the monument to the Warriors of Chernobyl

At night, April 26, 2021, Bishop Baryshevsky Victor on the day of the 35th anniversary of the Chernobyl tragedy, performed a requiem for the liquidators and victims of the disaster at the monument to the Warriors of Chernobyl on the territory of the temple complex in honor of the Archangel of God Michael in Kiev, according to the Information and Educational Department of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church.

During the funeral service, the Dean of the Dnieper Deanery, Archpriest John Sveredyuk, the rector, Archpriest Bogdan Shtym, as well as the clergy of the church prayed. The memorial service was attended by representatives of the state authorities, liquidators, members of the families of the victims.

After its completion, at 1:00 23 minutes (at the moment when the reactor on the 4th unit of the Chernobyl nuclear power plant exploded), a memorial alarm sounded – 35 blows, the number of which is equal to the number of years separating us from that terrible catastrophe.

Finally, Bishop Victor addressed the audience with a word in which he urged to preserve the memory and always offer their prayers for all who laid down their lives, eliminating the consequences of a terrible catastrophe.

Today, at 8:00 am, a chime was made in all churches and monasteries of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church in memory of those killed as a result of the accident at the Chernobyl nuclear power plant.
