The UOC, registered as a religious organization in 1990, “occupied” the name of the OCU, registered two years ago as the Ukrainian Orthodox Church “The Orthodox Church of Ukraine”. The head of the OCU, Epiphany Dumenko, said this in an interview with Radio Svoboda.
“This is temporary. For, according to the law, they must be renamed. Of course, that through the courts, which made certain decisions … Although there is a law, and the time will come when they will be forced to change this name. And we are legally registered as the Ukrainian Orthodox Church “The Orthodox Church of Ukraine”. We are a real Ukrainian Orthodox Church. And this name was temporarily occupied by them. But the time will come when the laws will be in effect,” he said.
