The OCU will receive the status of Patriarchate after the unification of all Orthodox Christians in Ukraine. This opinion was expressed by the religious scholar Dmitry Gorevoy in the program “Detector. Religions”.

Patriarchate status is granted only to those Churches where Orthodoxy is professed by the titular nation, says Gorevoy.

“Ukrainians have a chance to become the Patriarchy,” the religious scholar believes, adding, however, that the history of obtaining the highest status testifies that first the Church must unite, be united and bring all ethnic territories together.

So, he summed up, the Ukrainians are faced with an ambitious and difficult task to unite. And only after that can the question of the Patriarchy be raised.
