New female monastic community in honor of saint equaap. Princess Olga appeared in the Cherkasy diocese

In the Cherkasy region, with the blessing of Archbishop Feodosiy of Cherkasy and Kanev, another female monastic community was established in honor of the Holy Equal-to-the-Apostles Princess Olga, the Information and Educational Department of the UOC reports.

The community consists of a group of sisters in Christ, some of whom will take monastic tonsure in the near future (during this Great Lent). The community settled in the village. Pleskachovka, Smelyansky district, not far from the existing St. Alekseevsky monastery of the Cherkasy diocese. The abbot of the monastery, Archimandrite Alexy (Pavlenko), was appointed confessor of the newly formed women’s community by the decree of Archbishop Theodosius. The sisters lead a solitary prayer life on their own vast plot of land, on which monastic cells are being built and the foundation of a church in honor of the Holy Equal-to-the-Apostles Princess Olga was laid. The temple, the project of which is designed in the old Byzantine style and repeats the architectural forms of some ancient temples that have survived to this day in the Crimea, was founded by the late Metropolitan Sophronius of Cherkassy and Kanev at one time.

The sisters of the newly formed monastic community have a small subsidiary farm, raise fish in their own artificial pond, and grow fruits and vegetables.

If the Lord blesses this undertaking and the sisterhood expands and strengthens spiritually, then the Holy Synod of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church will receive a petition from the Governor of the Cherkasy diocese, Archbishop Theodosius, for the blessing and establishment of a full-fledged nunnery on the basis of the St. Olginsky sisterhood.
