In Zhytomyr, the “bishop” of the OCU served for the repose of the deceased Catholic bishop

The website of the Kyiv-Zhytomyr diocese of the RCC has published photoes of the farewell of the Catholic flock and clergy of Zhytomyr with the deceased Bishop Jan Purvinsky.

Together with the Catholic believers who said goodbye to the bishop day and night in the church of St. Sophia, the photo shows the representative of the OCU “Bishop” Paisiy Kukharchuk, who joined the requiem service.

“Bishop Paisiy… together with other priests also came to pray at the tomb, because he personally knew and maintained friendly relations with Bishop Jan,” the message says.

Since 1998, Yan Purvinsky has been an Ordinary Bishop of the Kyiv-Zhytomyr diocese of the Roman Catholic Church. On June 15, 2011, Pope Benedict XVI accepted the resignation of Bishop Jan Purvinsky from the position of ordinary of the diocese for reaching retirement age. In April 2021, the bishop died at the age of 86.
