A new UOC church was built in the war-torn district of Donetsk

A new temple of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church in honor of the Holy Equal-to-the-Apostles Grand Duke Volodymyr was built on the western outskirts of Donetsk in the Administrative settlement microdistrict. This is one of the areas most affected by the war in Donbass, Pravlife reports.

The Vladimir community was founded by active residents of the Administrative settlement and the leadership of the Donetsk plant of rubber and chemical products in the 1990s. In the old building, which was on the balance sheet of the enterprise, a temporary church was organized. The first divine service in it took place in 2000 on the feast of the Nativity of Christ.

At the same time, parishioners, headed by the rector, Archpriest Nikolai Savilov, were developing a project for a large stone church. However, due to the decline in production at the plant, the construction process was frozen at the very first stages. The Vladimir community managed to find another place for the temple – near the Zapadny bus station. But a war broke out in Donbass and these plans remained unfulfilled.

On July 28, 2014, on the feast day of the Vladimir Church, a shell hit the temporary church. The inhabitants of the village were evacuated on the same day, and it was not possible to hold the festive divine service. The Zapadny bus station was completely destroyed, and with it the construction plans.

In 2020, Metropolitan Hilarion of Donetsk and Mariupol decided to build a full-fledged church in the Administrative Village. The community gladly participated in the consecration of the place for the church, helped in the construction. On April 4, 2021, on the Week of the Cross, the first divine service was held in the new church.
