Bartholomew’s intervention in the church situation in Ukraine led to a crisis in interchurch relations, – Primate of the UOC

The last years have become a time of serious trials for the entire World Orthodoxy, said the Primate of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church, His Beatitude Metropolitan of Kyiv and All Ukraine Onuphry, in his address to the participants of the XI annual conference “Student Science in the Theological School,” Fraza reports.

“The interference of the Patriarch of Constantinople in the church situation in Ukraine led to a serious crisis in interchurch relations. Today, the issues of ecclesiology have acquired particular relevance. The doctrine of church unity, primacy in the Ecumenical Church, the canonical structure of Local Churches, apostolic succession, the procedure for accepting into the Church those who have departed – all these issues are actively discussed today in the church environment.

The answers to these questions should be formulated not only by great theologians, but also by every student of the theological school, every Orthodox Christian: everyone, without exception, must answer these questions for themselves today, so as not to succumb to temptations in the future,” the Primate of the UOC noted.

His Beatitude called on believers to be faithful to the Church of Christ, and for this it is necessary to be “all-wise and prudent, to distinguish truth from falsehood.”
