Entrance to Romanian Orthodox monastery set on fire in Jerusalem

On March 1, 2021, unidentified persons set fire to the entrance to the monastery of the Romanian Orthodox Church near the religious Jewish quarter in Jerusalem, according to the website of the Latin Patriarchate of Jerusalem.

Some religious Orthodox Jews are suspected of the attacks.

The priest from the representation of the Romanian Church managed to put out the fire in time. This act of vandalism against the Romanian monastery in Jerusalem is the fourth in a month.

The Christian community in Jerusalem condemned such acts of vandalism, “offending the lives of not only Christians, but also many who still believe in dialogue and mutual respect.”

“All political and religious authorities of the city must unite in condemning these acts, so frequent in recent months in Jerusalem,” the Assembly of Catholic Ordinaries of the Holy Land said in a statement. “For this reason, we demand that the Israeli security forces seriously investigate these incidents and bring the attackers to justice.”
