The head of the UOC-KP Filaret Denisenko said that the Ukrainian government, just like the Russian government, violates the right to freedom of religion. According to UNIAN, this was discussed at a press conference in Kyiv on the topic: “International legal protection of the religious association of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of the Kyiv Patriarchate.”

According to him, the Ukrainian government is proud that the country has freedom of religion, but in fact treats the Kyiv Patriarchate in the same way as the Russian government in the occupied Crimea and the occupied part of Donbass.

“They shout that freedom of religion is being violated in the Crimea, in the Donbas. True, it is violated. And we oppose the violation of freedom of religion in Crimea and Donbass. But the authorities are repeating this too. And you, the authorities, are in favor of freedom of religion? And what is being done in Ukraine with the Kyiv Patriarchate? You are doing the same with the Kyiv Patriarchate, as the Russian authorities in Crimea and the occupied territory of Donbass,” Filaret said.

In this regard, the UOC-KP appealed to the European Court of Human Rights. The head of the legal department of the Kyiv Patriarchate of the UOC-KP, Neonila Tkachenko, who was present, noted that the issues of protecting the UOC-KP in the future determine one way – an appeal to the European Court of Human Rights.
