In the West, they prefer to remain silent about the seizure of churches in Ukraine, – ROC hierarch

Western human rights activists, with rare exceptions, prefer to keep silent about the seizure of churches of the UOC, which indicates double standards in the field of information policy, said the head of the Department for External Church Relations of the Russian Orthodox Church, Metropolitan Volokolamski Hilarion (Alfeyev), the website of the DECR ROC reports.

Commenting on the appeal of the European Parliament to ban the site “Myrotvorets”, the hierarch noted that this is the right step.

However, he admitted, the answer that had already been voiced by representatives of the Ukrainian authorities cannot but be alarming: it was said, for example, that the Verkhovna Rada could not ban this resource. “The Ukrainian authorities can ban some television channels, but they cannot. I think that if there was a desire, they could have banned it, ”Vladyka Hilarion said, expressing the hope that this resource will eventually cease to exist, since “it is an instrument of inciting hatred and enmity”.

The hierarch also pointed out the need for an adequate response from those who are fighting for human rights to the seizure of churches of the canonical Ukrainian Orthodox Church. In his opinion, under President Poroshenko in Ukraine, the authorities initiated, in fact, persecution of Orthodox Christians, “who were thrown out of churches, priests were driven out into the street with young children.”

“All this is recorded. All this is known. These facts were published in the press. But Western human rights activists, with rare exceptions, prefer to keep silent about this. This is very sad, because it testifies to double standards in the field of information policy,” summed up Metropolitan Hilarion.
