Elder Metropolitan Emmanuel of Chalcedon thanked God for all that He has offered him so far, Patriarch Bartholomew and the Holy Synod of the Patriarchate of Constantinople for this honorary election to Elder at the Metropolis of Chalcedon. The hierarch stated that he prays for the flock of the metropolis of France that he served for 18 years.

On February 16, 2021, the Holy Synod of the Patriarchate of Constantinople met at the katholikon of the Monastery of the Mother of God at the Spring in Balikli, where metropolitan Emmanuel of Gaul was elected Elder at the Metropolis of Chalcedon.
