UOC hierarch commented on the appeal of the European Parliament to close the site “Myrotvorets”

Bishop Baryshevsky Viktor (Kotsaba), Head of the Representation of the UOC to European International Organizations, commented on the appeal of the European Parliament to the Ukrainian authorities with a demand to close the infamous site “Myrotvorets”.

“The EP regrets that the political climate in the country has deteriorated when intimidation, hate speech and political pressure are widely used for political purposes; urges the authorities to strongly condemn and prohibit the activities of extremist and hateful groups and websites, such as the Myrotvorets, which create tensions in society and misuse the personal data of hundreds of people, including journalists, politicians and members of minority groups,” the Hierarch cites the resolution European Parliament.

According to him, “the functioning of a resource that publishes the personal data of citizens of Ukraine, without evidence accusing them of anti-state activities, is unacceptable. And the point is not even a violation of the Constitution and the basic democratic principles of the existence of any society. The point is whipping up an atmosphere of hatred and enmity that has already struck Ukraine. After all, both through the media and through the statements of individual politicians, a strong conviction is created that everyone who got on the pages of the site “Myrotvorets” are enemies of the state and Ukrainiane. And this despite the fact that a huge number of people, the data about whom are present on the site, have done for Ukraine and its image in the world hundreds of times more than all the creators of “Myrotvorets” put together. ”

“In fact, this resource is used to fight political or ideological opponents, and even more – to intimidate them. From here, it is a stone’s throw to the most severe censorship and “marking” of the unwanted,”- emphasized Bishop Victor.
